Grandmistress Flash and her Furious Thighs

Such a tight race in this poll. There was some concern that this poll wasn’t as clear as some of the previous polls – the idea was that quality would be more important than the amount of nudity. In my opinion, I think you all got it. I mean, for sheer quantity of nudity and paucity of quality, one need look no further than "Caligula", and I’m not seeing it on this list.

I’ll have to confess that I’m not nearly as knowledgeable about films as LawDog, never mind our Uncle. Of course, a lack of knowledge has never prevented me from holding an opinion. With that caveat, I’ll let it rip. To help give at least a semblance of some sort of objective or authoritative opinion, I’ve included the imdb scores next to the top ten.

I enjoyed Basic Instinct, but of the films I have seen in this poll, I guess I always had a soft spot (well, you get the idea) for Body Heat. I loved the film then, I love it now. I think it’s a really great story, I love Ted Danson’s dancing DA, and the scenes between Kathleen Turner and William Hurt are terrific.

I’m going to take this opportunity to talk about two films on this list that I’ve never gotten at all: Nine and ½ Weeks and Blue Velvet. Yes, yes, I know, Basinger’s unbelievable, ice cubes, rain, "Leave Your Hat On", yeah yeah. Whatever. I just thought it was among the dumbest movies I’d ever seen. Because it was so dumb, I really had a hard time appreciating whatever eroticism it presented.

And as for Blue Velvet – I remember hearing the ads on the radio about this mind-blowing, new, "everything in cinema will change forever" movie. Maybe I missed something. I made myself sit through that film at least eight times before I gave up. I guess it’s like Beck or something. I saw Beck perform on "Sessions at West 57th" and really wanted to be fair, but found myself thinking the guy was totally jive by the end of the performance. I just didn’t buy it – Beck to me seemed phony and opportunistic. Blue Velvet, to me, was just like that. I didn’t get it, I didn’t buy it, I thought it was just odd for the sake of being odd. I’m sure I’m in for a talking-to from LawDog and from the Uncle – maybe they can explain what I didn’t get. Scroll down for vidcaps from the top five.

Well – since I’m on a roll, and Lawdog’s too busy to stop me (heh heh heh), I’ll ask for your opinions about television dramas in the next poll. What is/was the best hour-long TV drama? NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues, and ER are obvious but what else? Send your nominations and insults to flatcat90@hotmail.com. Just be gentle – to paraphrase Barry Goldwater, "Ignorance in the defense of liberty is no vice."
